It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Barbara Rose Stewart (nee Way) on Thursday April 4, 2024 just a few days shy of her 74th birthday. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Lucile and William and her sister, Audrey. Barbara is survived by so many who dearly loved her --her husband, Arthur; her son, Brendan, and daughter-in-law, Ladan; grandsons, Rhys and Riley; brothers, William (Cathy) and Henry (Pamela); sister-in-law, Margaret (Chuck); and so many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was born in Steubenville, Ohio and graduated from Follansbee High School, where her mother taught mathematics. After high school, she attended Bethany College, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree, and the University of Pittsburgh, where she attained a Master of Library Science degree. In short order, Barbara became the Head Librarian fir the renowned law firm of Reed Smith, LLP in Pittsburgh. She later joined the Aluminum Company of America, rising to the position of ALCOA's corporate librarian and archivist --responsible for maintaining some of its earliest surviving aluminum artifacts. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with Arthur and visiting family and friends. She especially loved the time she was able to spend with her two grandsons in New York. She had a passion for reading and music, and for many years, she sang alto with the choir at St. Paul Cathedral. She was a proud member of the Meriwether Society. Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Thursday, April 11 from 3 - 7p.m. Funeral Friday, April 12, Mass of Christian Burial, St. Mary of the Mount, Queen of Peace Parish, 403 Grandview Avenue, Pittsburgh at 10a.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association at P.O.
