Edward Kichi Obituary

On Wednesday August 18, 2021, Edward P. Kichi, age 78, at his home in Van Nuys, CA. Ed is survived by his brother Michael Kichi, nephew Michael Kichi (Babiche), niece Melissa Huey (Tom), great niece Josie Kichi and great nephews Finn and Jack Kichi. Also survived by his very special uncle, Andrew Kichi. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Margaret Ann Podrasky Kichi, sister in law Toni Kichi, and longtime partner Julie “Julita” Scott. Ed was born in the Greenfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh on September 21, 1942, and after graduating from Taylor Allderdice High School, he attended Morris Harvey College, graduating with degrees in Math, Physics, and Psychology. He then received his master’s degree from Pepperdine University. Ed proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant at Marine OCS in Quantico. After completing artillery training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was promoted to First Lieutenant. Ed served in Vietnam as a Forward Oberserver, Artillery Battery Commander, and as a trained navigator, and while in Vietnam was promoted to Captain. After leaving Vietnam, he was promoted to Major in the Marine Corps Reserves. He spent his career as a purchasing agent, having worked for a construction company in Israel, and then in Kuwait, building what was then the world’s largest oil refinery. Ed retired as a purchasing agent from the Los Angeles Metro. Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Thursday from 2-6p.m. Funeral Friday, Mass of Christian Burial, St. Paul Cathedral 10a.m.
