Albert Henry Eckert died on Friday August 30, 2024.
Al was born on February 7, 1932, to Margaret Chillcott and Albert Milton Eckert. He grew up in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bellevue.
He was a proud 1954 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in business. As a member of Sigma Pi fraternity, Al was a representative to the Interfraternity Council. He participated in Army ROTC while at Pitt and then served from 1955-1957 as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Finance Corps.
Al spent 44 years in the local banking business, retiring in 2003 as the President of Bell Federal Savings, which was founded by his grandfather.
He was a longtime supporter of all of Pittsburgh’s cultural arts and museums. In particular, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Pittsburgh Symphony and endowed the Albert H. Eckert percussion chair.
He was a member of Shadyside Presbyterian Church, the Duquesne Club and the HYP Club.
Al was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Suzanne Eckert Reinert.
He is survived by nieces, nephews, a special “granddaughter” and loving friends. A Service will be held on Saturday September 7, 2024, in the chapel at Allegheny County Memorial Park at 10a.m. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice or the Pittsburgh Symphony 600 Penn Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
