Almerinda Greco Obituary

Almerinda Mannella Greco, a long-time resident of Morningside, passed away on January 8, 2025 at age 90. The youngest child of Elizabeth and Eugene Mannella, she was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, aunt, niece, and cousin, all of whom she greatly cherished. Merinda grew up in the Lincoln Avenue neighborhood and loved visiting with many relatives in the area. She attended Corpus Christi Grade School and Mt. Alvernia High School, where she excelled in academics and music. She received an Associate's Degree from the Business Training College as a medical assistant and worked for several established doctors, providing outstanding service and care to many patients. In addition to the selfless love she provided to her family, she was a passionate volunteer at the Oasis Literacy Program at Sunnyside Elementary School, the Leech Farm VA Hospital, and the Ladies of Charity.

Merinda met her husband Frank in 1955, who lived on the same street as her aunt, marrying the following year. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in August and have many fond memories of family gatherings, travel, and music events. They purchased a wonderful home on Morningside Avenue with a large dining room and porch for entertaining family and friends. Merinda filled their home with love, music, and countless delicious meals as a gourmet cook and baker. She anticipated their annual vacations to Rehoboth Beach and the many shops on “the Avenue.” Merinda and Frank raised three children in love and faith, Donna Marie, Christine Bellesis (George), and Frank M. (Bonnie). Embracing a devout love of education, music, and service, she ensured that her children had a Catholic education and music lessons, attended college, appreciated cultural events, and volunteered in the community. “Grandma” received much joy from her grandchildren and their spouses: Andrew Bellesis (Suzie), Alena Greco Fay (Joseph), and Jacob Greco. She loved seeing them at many family celebrations, music and dance recitals, and athletic events.

Merinda moved to the Vincentian Home five years ago, and her husband joined her this past year. They enjoyed eating meals together, attending Mass and prayer services, and participating in music programs. The family is deeply appreciative to the Vincentian community for providing outstanding care. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire St. on Sunday, January 12, 2025, 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral on Monday, January 13, 2025.
