Anica Barlow Reed “Nikki” Smith of Pittsburgh and Vero Beach, FL age 80, on Monday September 9, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Loving wife of David A. Smith for 59 years, daughter of the late James H. Reed III, and the late Louise Snowdon Reed, sister of Carolyn “Lyn” Reed Orr and of the late James H. “Jeff” Reed IV. Mother of Brian B. Smith (Kelly) and grandmother of Henry Smith and Charles Smith, known to them as Omah. Mother of the late Tina Smith who passed away in 1981. Nikki graduated from The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry NY in 1961 and then from a Pittsburgh secretarial school. One of her first jobs was secretary for U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson. She greatly enjoyed working on Capitol Hill. In later years she devoted herself to such organizations as Pressley Ridge, Colonial Dames, Sheldon Calvary Camp, and the Garden Club of Allegheny County. Nikki was well known for her needlepoint expertise and for her happy smile. Nikki’s remains will be inurned in the columbarium at Calvary Episcopal Church in a private family ceremony.
