Ann Trees, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, in her home in Verona, PA. Born on November 30th, 1933, in Indiana, Ann spent her childhood in New Castle before moving to Virginia and graduating from Mary Williams University in Fredericksburg, VA, She started her work as an elementary school teacher and met Clifton and the two married in Falls Church, Virginia, in 1956. Together, they embarked on a life filled with adventure and travel starting in New York City, while Clifton started his career in international banking. In 1961, they welcomed their son, David, before relocating to Paris, France and then Tokyo, Japan. In Japan, Ann embraced learning about the culture, and she travelled the country and became involved with the International House of Japan. She was passionate about the art of woodblock printing. In the 1970s, they moved to Hong Kong. Ann was a lifelong chef and learned Chinese, Indian, and Filipino dishes. She had a love of the symphony and was active with the Hong Kong Philharmonic. In the 1980s, Clifton and Ann moved to Singapore, where she volunteered with the National Museum of Singapore while continuing to explore the new city in which she lived. In between foreign assignments and after Clifton retired, they lived in Pittsburgh, which was their home base. Ann taught at The Ellis School and, bringing back her culinary experience from her time in Asia, taught cooking classes. Still passionate about the symphony, she was an active supporter of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Ann was a devoted member of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Linden Garden Club, and this year, she celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of her membership. Ann was dedicated to her family, and in every moment of her day, she put them before herself. She is survived by her husband, Clifton, her son, David, her daughter-in-law, Tuyet, and her grandson, Jamie, who will cherish her forever. We will miss her and her smile. A private graveside service was held at Plum Creek Cemetery. Arrangements by John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com)
