Anthony Wallace Martin, Sr. Obituary

Anthony Wallace Martin Sr., age 76, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 22nd, 2026. Born on May 5th, 1950, in Pittsburgh, PA, Tony was the beloved son of Pauline Boea and Govan Martin.


“Big” Tony lived a life marked by faith as a devout Catholic, friendship, and deep love for his family. He was known for his amazing food, his outgoing personality, and generous spirit. He didn’t know a stranger.  Throughout his life, Tony took great pride in the family catering business, Govan Martin Catering, and he found joy in great music, his yellow Cadillac, and spending time with those he loved.


He was a loving father to Amber Phillips, Dr. Anthony Martin Jr., and Brian Harvin and a proud grandfather to 10 wonderful grandchildren. “Pretty” Tony’s family was one of the greatest blessings of his life, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.


Tony is survived by 2 of his children, Amber Phillips and Dr. Anthony Martin Jr.; his grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. 


Friends will be received at John A Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Sunday from 12 – 4 p.m. Funeral Monday July 27th , Mass of Christian Burial, St Mary Magdalene Parish, St. Bede Church at 10 a.m. (509 S. Dallas Avenue) to celebrate Tony’s life.


Tony will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His life, love, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
