Barbara Smith "Smitty" Webb Obituary

Barbara Smith Webb (“Smitty”) was called to her heavenly home on September 5, 2025 after enjoying a long life of service to her family, neighbors, and the Lord. Smitty, born in 1928 in Wilkinsburg, PA, graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1946.  (Her children can still sing her WHS fight song). Following high school, she attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where she promptly (day 1) met her husband, Frank Webb. As his wife of nearly 73 years, and until his death in 2022, she served as Frank’s muse, sales manager, and Chief Inspirational Officer for his flourishing art career.   Smitty is survived by son, Christopher Webb (Jane Romeo) of Cleveland, OH; daughters, Wendy Kumer (Michael) of Pittsburgh, and Becky Rinehart (John) of Dover, PA, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Richard Smith (2006).

Smitty’s Christian faith was an important dimension that piloted her life, through raising her family and being a good friend and neighbor.  She served as a Sunday School Teacher, on the Altar Guild, and was involved in numerous community and church service organizations spanning seven decades.   She was a devout prayer warrior, praying daily for friends and family who were sustained through Smitty’s rigorous devotions.  Her interests included crosswords and knitting; many of us sport knitted caps, ponchos, scarves, mittens, and blankets lovingly and colorfully hand-crafted by Smitty.  She was renowned for showing great hospitality and generosity and was quick to offer up a cup of coffee and engage in lively and humorous conversation, demonstrating her sharp wit.

Friends will be received on Thursday September 11, 2025 from 7-9PM at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street and on Friday September 12 at her church, First Trinity Lutheran, 535 Neville Street, 15213, from 10-10:45AM, followed by a Christian Service at 11AM.
