Charles "Chip" Friday

Charles “Chip” Whitehill Friday, 80, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, June 21st, 2026. Born on December 19th, 1945, he was the son of John Aloysius and Helene Whitehill Friday. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Kathy (Booth), and their children, Charlie, Kate, and John (Maranda). Chip was an incredibly proud and devoted “Granddad” to his six beautiful granddaughters, Anne, Megan, Sara, Kate, Ava and Elle, who adored him. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Aloysius Friday, Jr. and sister, Barbara Friday Rumble. 

Born and raised in Fox Chapel, Chip was a graduate of Fox Chapel High School and President of his class all four years. He was a lifelong member of the Pittsburgh Field Club, where he met the love of his life at the pool as teenagers- a story he was most fond of telling. He went on to swim for and graduate from Villanova University, where he was an All-American swimmer in butterfly. 

He was well-known and admired for his relentless work ethic, a trait that was strongly influenced by his father, John A. Friday, who was the President and Trustee of the Duquesne Brewery.  As a young man, Chip worked in the brewhouses in the South Side. In 1977, he became Co-Founder and President of Triangle Fastener Corporation. He retired after selling his business in 2019, with long-time business partner and best friend, Dennis Kelleher. Throughout his life, he was an avid swimmer and skeet shooter- a passion he shared with his family and friends. He was also a member of the former Pittsburgh Athletic Association and the Young Presidents' Organization. 

Chip will always be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family. He was the life of the party, an epic storyteller, and the ultimate host (who would never let your glass be empty). His generosity knew no bounds. His zest for life was contagious, and he made a friend wherever he went. To know him was to love him. 

Chip was happiest sitting in a rocking chair on his lake house porch during cocktail hour, talking with family, waving at passersby, commenting on boats, and waiting for the perfect sunset. His ashes will be laid to rest at Chautauqua Lake, in a special place, with a front row seat to every evening sunset.  

The family will forever be thankful for the legacy he built and the love that he shared with each of us. 

We will always ring the cocktail bell for you, buddy.
