David Boris Protivnak passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2023 in Pittsburgh surrounded by loved ones. David was born on April 14, 1954, in Vydran, Slovakia and he immigrated to the United States in 1969. He was the father of Jake John Protivnak (Carrie), Joel John Protivnak (Leigh), and Peter John Protivnak; grandfather of Danica Natalia Protivnak and Zak Aiden Protivnak. David is survived by his sister Darina Protivnak, his brother Vladimir Protivnak (Luba), his brother Stanislav Protivnak (Tatiana), as well as, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. David’s greatest passion was composing, playing, and recording his own music in English and his native Carpatho-Rusyn language. He enjoyed writing poetry and creating art that expressed his own unique view of the world. David enjoyed translating texts from his native language to English. He was a devoted Christian who loved learning and sharing with others his knowledge of the scripture. His true pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. David was a great friend to many, ready to offer a helping hand to those in need. His friends remember him for his musical talents, engaging conversations, thoughtfulness and his sense of humor. Family and friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street, Pittsburgh (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 9:00a.m. until a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. The interment service will immediately follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
