Dawn McClowry Aul, aged 84, died on Monday September 23, 2024, with the same grace and dignity with which she led her life. Born Sylvia Dawn Ann McClowry on October 7, 1939 to James and Gertrude (Lentz) McClowry, she was called Dawn after the New Dawn Rose. Dawn is survived by her husband, Robert C. Aul, daughters Jamie D. Aul and Carey Douglas (John), her sister-in-law, Kitty Pugliese, nieces, Kip Johnston (Wesley), Mary Young (Bob), Dianne Kandrack (Mark), and Debbie Bauer (Mark). She was predeceased by her brother, Dr. James T. McClowry. Also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
Despite having had many health challenges, Dawn was a joy to take care of during her final years. She had a kind word and smile for everyone around her (and sometimes a wink!) Her spirit evoked the same kindness and compassion from the people who surrounded her and her caregivers and therapists helped keep her vibrant and healthy as they became part of the family. The family is eternally grateful to the whole team who made it possible for Dawn to stay at home and thrive.
Dawn lived her life in the way that we all should - with kindness, empathy and humor - for everyone around her. She created the most welcoming of homes with the goal that everyone who entered would be comfortable and at ease - and well fed. Her smile could light up a room and instantly change the mood. Life is full of challenges, but we can only hope to follow in Dawn's footsteps in always rising to the occasion and meeting those challenges with grace.
Although Dawn's physical heart ultimately gave out, her true heart remains perfect.
