Dena Demas of Pittsburgh passed away on Friday July 21 2023 just two weeks before her 98th birthday. She was the daughter of Greek immigrants, the late Peter and Ethel Demas of Pittsburgh. Dena was preceded in death by her siblings Nicholas Demas, Georgia Katsafanas, and George Demas. Dena is survived by her 5 nephews, Chris Perry of Ohio, Paul Katsafanas of Rhode Island, Peter Demas of Pittsburgh, Louis Demas of Florida, and Thomas Demas of Tennessee.
Dena’s first job after graduating Schenley High School was in the secretarial pool with Equitable Gas
Company in Pittsburgh. By the time she retired, she had attained the position of Assistant to the
President of Equitable Gas. That position was never held by a woman until it was awarded to Dena.
Dena is most remembered by her nephews as the fun aunt to be around. She was never shy to tell you what she was thinking even if you didn’t ask but was first to enjoy a good laugh at her own expense. She was kind, loving, and generous to family and others.
Dena will be missed by all of those who loved her. She was quite a woman! Friends will be received
at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Tuesday from 10a.m. until an 11a.m. Funeral Service. Entombment in Allegheny Cemetery.
