Donna Popson Thomas
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donna Popson Thomas on Monday,
December 12th. She was the beloved wife of the late George N. Thomas, and survived by her
children Nicholas, Stephen, Maria Thomas Burgwin and George, Jr. Loving Mother-in-law of
Penny Thomas and Maury Burgwin, and devoted Grandmother of Cas, Stephen, Collinson, Jodie and Matthew. She is also survived by a sister, Lucretia Popson Casmedes and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Donna was the daughter of the late Angeline Manolakis and Stephen Popson, sister of the late Catherine Popson Constantine and Mother of the late Athanasius who passed away in infancy. After graduating from Peabody High School, she attended The University of Pittsburgh and worked in the Personnel field before becoming the Purchasing Manager for Louise Child Care. For over 30 years, Donna volunteered at the Gift Shop at UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital. She also served on the Philoptochos Board at Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Oakland and worked at countless Greek Food Festivals at the Cathedral. Donna was a gracious hostess, caring and devoted Mother, loved cooking for her family and friends and truly enjoyed trips to the Eastern Shore with her family every summer. In addition to being remembered for her impeccable manners, she was also known for her delicious baklava. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. As per her wishes, her funeral and interment were private. Donations in her memory can be made to Saint Nicholas Cathedral, 419 South Dithridge Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Arrangements by John A.
