Dr. Joanne Marie Andiorio

Dr. Joanne Marie Andiorio, 83, of Oakland died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday July 7, 2021. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Joseph and Josephine (Colosimo) Andiorio. Born and raised in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, Joanne was educated by the Sisters of Mercy. Her undergraduate work was completed at Mt. Mercy College (now Carlow University). Joanne held graduate degrees in Library Administration from Rosary College as well as a Master's Degree and Doctoral (DrPH) in Public Health, both from the University of Pittsburgh. A Sister of Mercy for over 40 years, Joanne held a number of positions, most notably as President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System from 1978-1998. Joanne went on to serve the Pittsburgh community in various leadership roles including executive Director of Mt. Nazareth Center, President/CEO of Holy Family Manor, COO of Vincentian Collaborative System and Administrator of Health and Wellness at St. Joseph Center and Providence Manor. In addition, Joanne served on many Boards of Trustees and was the recipient of local and national awards recognizing her executive skills and commitment to service. At the time of her passing, Joanne was an Associate Vincentian Sister of Charity, now known as the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. Beyond her personal and professional success, it was Joanne's compassionate spirit and generosity of heart that had an impact on all she met. Selflessness, loyalty and love for others were the trademarks of her life. Joanne respected and went out of her way to know those who worked both with her and for her. She was beloved by all who were blessed to have their lives cross her path. Family and friends will be received from 12-6 PM on Sunday July 11, 2021 at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street (freyvogelfuneralhome.com). Funeral Monday, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Paul Cathedral at 10:00AM.
