Age 99, of Edgewood, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, in Mt. Holly, NJ.Euripides was the loving husband of the late Mary (Kapourelos); father of Elpi (David) Altum and the late Fr. George (Rozalia) Christulides; grandfather of Mary (John) Ellison, Thespina Christulides, Christopher Altum; great-grandfather of Elpi and James Ellison.Euripides “Rip” was born September 15, 1924, on the island of Cyprus in the northern village of Angastina. His parents were diligent farmers of modest means who instilled values of hard-work, faith, and family to their eleven children. Overcoming significant odds, Euripides arrived in the United States in September 1949 and enrolled in Genevea College in Beaver Falls, PA earning a degree in industrial engineering. On July 6, 1953 he married the bell of Chester, PA, Mary. He was hired by Nabisco Inc. where he worked for 33 years. He retired from the Pittsburgh factory in 1986. While working and raising a family, Euripides helped establish the Cyprus Society of Greater Philadelphia where he served as the first elected secretary.After 30 years of faithful service to the community of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral (Oakland), he was ordained a deacon by His Eminence Metropolitan Maximos in 1995 and served as deacon to the late Fr. Sarantos Serviou. In 2011, His Eminence Metropolitan Savas elevated him to Archdeacon, a tremendous honor. His final service was to Saint Thomas Greek Orthodox Church in Cherry Hill, NJ as deacon to Fr. Emmanuel Pratsinakis. He spent his final decade in Medford, NJ under the loving care and attention of his daughter, Elpi. Rip will be remembered by many; as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, Sunday School teacher, archdeacon, proud Cypriot, but most of all, as a friend.Funeral Saturday, Friends will be received at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral for Divine Liturgy from 9-10a.m. followed by visitation with family at 10a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11a.m. Interment at Mt.
