Evangelia (Angie) Kalabokes went to sleep in the Lord on October 27, 2021 at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband Constantine (Gus) Kalabokes and she leaves behind a son, Steven (Joanne) Kalabokes, a daughter Georgia (Nick) Tzortzis, two grandsons, George (Allana) Tzortzis and Constantine Tzortzis, a great grandson, Nick Tzortzis as well as numerous friends and relatives.
Evangelia was born in Athens, Greece and became an orphan at the young age of 12. She went to live with her sister Mary Zaharis and grew up with her niece and nephew, Helen snd Mimis Zaharis. She experienced the horrors of the Nazi regime as well as a civil war in Greece. She left Athens as a 20 year old to seek a better life in the US where she met the love of her life and was naturalized as an American citizen.
She became a member of the St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Pittsburgh and served on the Philoptochos in her earlier years. She was a devoted wife and mother and saw to it that her husband and children had food on the table sometimes forgoing food for herself during hard times. Her husband worked 3 different shifts every other week and she would always be up to ensure he had something to eat and a lunch bag before leaving for work. When times were tough, she would even do odd jobs like sewing and baking pastries until the wee hours of the night to help make ends meet. She will be sorely missed by everyone.
