Genevieve "Gez" Ebbert Obituary

On Friday May 8, 2026 at age 81year, of Oakland. Genevieve “Gez” Ebbert, daughter of the late Lowrie Childs Wurts Ebbert and George S. Ebbert, Jr., and sister of the late Kay Ebbert Childs Bissell and Lowrie Childs Ebbert Reiter. Gez was devoted to her six nieces and nephews: Jay Childs. George Childs, Louise Kay Woodside, Rob


Reiter, Kendrick Krueger, Bekah Petronella and their respective children, her 14 great nieces and nephews.


            Gez Ebbert was born and brought up in Pittsburgh before leaving the city to continue her education and establish her educational career in New England and the Boston area. 


            Gez received both a Master’s Degree in Education in 1975 and a Doctorate in Curriculum Theory and Development in 1980 from Boston University. Between 1975 and 1985, she successfully published several science and math educational games in addition to several other education related journal articles.


            She was a devoted teacher for 40 years in public and private schools. She taught seventeen years as an elementary classroom teacher and 23 years as a Technology Specialist on the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. During her career, Gez taught and positively influenced over 6,000 children!          Gez had a passion for Teaching! Regardless of the topic or whether to Children, university students, staff or administrators, Gez was in her element when teaching. “Oh, the joys of teaching?”


            Since Gez’s move to Pittsburgh from Boston in 2009, she has become actively involved in many Pittsburgh community related boards and committees. From 2013 to 2017 Gez was the Chair of the Colonial Dames of Allegheny County of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Custodian of Archives and Papers and Dames Board representative for Neville House of Woodville in Bridgeville PA.


            Gez, was a member of the Garden Club of Allegheny County and Co-Chair of Timeless Treasures, the Garden Club’s annual fund raiser, PIZZAZZ. She also was a member of the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh Women’s Committee. and Co-Chair of its Holiday Tree Committee. Gez, was a member of ARCS, Achievement Rewards for College Scientists.


            Besides being the family genealogist and photographer, she was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, had a passion for daffodils, played tournament tennis in Pennsylvania and New England, loved to travel, loved cooking and entertaining and was devoted to children and animals.


            A service to celebrate Gez’s special life and her devotion to children and animals will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church on Friday May 15 at 11a.m. with a reception for family and friends to follow.
