James G Greb
March 28, 1953-November 19, 2023
James Greb age 70 died on Sunday November 19 after a short illness.
He is survived by his wife Karen Greb and son Peter Greb (Emily) and grandchildren Julia and Connor Greb. Also by his three sisters Mary Ann Lecci (Donald), Elizabeth Sandhagen (Harold), and Jennifer Greb. Also two brothers Paul Greb (Susan) and Edward Greb (Susan). Nieces Kathryn Marie Lecci, Victoria Rajaraman (Mabaran), Sarah Greb, Hannah Greb and nephews Matthew Greb, Adam Greb, John Lecci, Jonathan DiFiore (Kristen). James was the son of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Koeper) Greb and brother of the late Fr. Michael Greb OFM, CAP. He is also survived by his aunts Jean Greb and Yvonne Koeper and many cousins from the Koeper, Ruck, and Sweeny families.
Jim was a graduate of Duquesne University. Initially he had a broadcast journalism career with WDUQ radio (now WESA), KQV news radio, and as Pittsburgh correspondent for NPR and Physicians Radio Network.
He then began his second career as a volunteer paramedic starting with Medical Rescue Team South and then for over 30 years with the city of Pittsburgh as a crew chief.
Jim was a knowledgeable man of many interests from world affairs and government to space, aviation, the military, science, medicine , and automobiles. He could carry on a discussion with anyone with both deep insight and also a sense of humor. He was an accomplished cook who created numerous healthy delicious meals including many years of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for up to 30 family members. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend of many people from all walks of life.
Memorial Service Saturday December 2 at 11:30 AM at Rico’s Restaurant 1 Rico Lane, PGH, PA 15237.
