Obituary

James Harwill "Jim" Weber

Age 89, passed away in his home on March 27, 2023. Jim was a native of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. He attended Drexel University and has been a lifelong alumni supporter. There, he met his future wife of 67 years, Shirley. Post college, Jim served in the US Army at its European headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. Shirley soon joined him and they developed a lifelong passion for travel as they visited many cities across Europe. The map on their wall is full of pins reflecting their worldwide travel over the years. Jim embarked on a 42-year career with a global accounting firm which is now PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was admitted as partner in 1967. He served in its Philadelphia, Washington, DC and finally, its Pittsburgh office where he was Managing Partner. The Pittsburgh office tripled in size under his leadership, and he mentored hundreds of young professionals who went on to very successful careers. He was elected to his firm’s governing board in 1990 and retired in 1993. During his long career he was active in state and national CPA organizations, serving as chairman of several state committees prior to being elected President of the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs. He also served on the governing Council of the AICPA. A resident of Fox Chapel since 1976, Jim was active as a volunteer in a number of local nonprofit organizations including long service as a Board member of the Boy Scouts of America, Pittsburgh Council, and served as treasurer for 15 years. Jim was the honoree of the Eagle Scout class of 1990 and a 1996 recipient of the Scouts Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor given to a volunteer. Jim belonged to the Duquesne Club where he headed the prestigious “Poopentate Table” for many years. He also was a long-time member of the Pittsburgh Field Club. He was an avid golfer, who happily accepted a multitude of strokes in the swat. Jim also loved playing gin every week at the club. Jim is survived by his loyal and loving wife, Shirley, and three daughters, Lynda Weber of Newport RI, Sandra McInerney (Brian) of Fox Chapel and Melisa Staples (Tom) of Contoocook, NH. He is predeceased by his first grandson, Peter James Horoszko. He is survived by his remaining grandchildren, James Michael Horoszko, Stephen Weber McInerney, Megan Marie McInerney, Jacob Thomas Staples and Nicholas James Staples.

A celebration of Jim’s life will take place at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church on Thursday, April 13 at 3:00 PM.
