Joan Donohue Pizoli Obituary

At her home in Fox Chapel, on Easter Sunday, Joan Donohue Pizoli peacefully passed on to her heavenly home surrounded by the love of her family. She was 94.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband William "Bill" Francis, who was waiting with open arms.  Also welcoming her home were her sister Mary T. Lintner and brother John P. Donohue.  She is survived by her sister Anne Speitel of Lancaster, Pa.
She will be deeply missed and always cherished by her children William Pizoli Jr. (Amy), Patricia Sheridan, Karen McCarthy (James), Jay Pizoli (Abby), Constance Pizoli and Virginia Sinnott (Michael).  Joan was a light in the lives of her 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, as a young woman, she was very athletic and enjoyed swimming and spending time on her father's boat.
Joan met her future husband at St. Francis University, Loretto, Pa.  She graduated from Mt. Aloysius College, Cresson, Pa. They were members of the Duquesne Club, the Isles Yacht Club and the Pittsburgh Field Club.
She and Bill settled in Point Breeze and eventually moved to Fox Chapel, where they built a home to accommodate their growing family.
Her homes in Ocean City, N.J. and Punta Gorda Fla. are testaments to Joan's love of the water, a sentiment she passed on to her children.
While her faith and her family were the center and focus of her life, she found time as a young mother to volunteer and entertain. Joan always made time for shopping and reading a good book. She also took great joy in decorating her homes and expressing herself through fashion. Funeral Thursday, Mass of Christian Burial, Christ the King Parish at St. Scholastica Church (Aspinwall) at 10AM. Donations in her name may be sent to St. Jude Hospital and Little Sisters of the Poor. Arrangements By John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com)
