John Gentilcore Obituary

John Gentilcore

March 11, 1944 – May 25, 2025

With a heavy heart we announce the passing of John Gentilcore. Loving Father who peacefully slipped away on May 25, 2025 at the age of 81. He was surrounded by loved ones at Shadyside Hospital when he began his journey home.

John was born in Pittsburgh, PA and lived here his entire life. Splitting time between Morningside and Greenfield, he loved the city and fabric of neighborhoods throughout. He began work as a Contractor shortly after graduating from Peabody H.S. in 1962. He was passionate about improving the quality of homes throughout Pittsburgh, and was a successful entrepreneur for over 60 years. If he wasn’t at Rico’s having Scrod for lunch, you could probably find him at The Meadows looking to hit a Trifecta (2 over the 1-3-4.) John’s wonderful sense of humor generated countless laughs over the course of his lifetime. His favorite pastime was talking with strangers, finding common ground and sharing a joke.

He is survived by his children John and Nick, daughter in laws Toi and Stephanie, grandchildren Pierce and Santina, nieces Stacey and Angela, nephew Joe, and longtime good friend Connie Stathis.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Ange, his sister Terri, and brother-in-law Joe Scolieri.

A special thanks to the Shadyside Cardiothoracic Service and CTICU Team. With particular recognition for his niece Angela Gallagher N.P.
