John F. Soboslay

On Sunday November 27, 2022, of Squirrel Hill, was born on August 17, 1931, to Emil and Edna Soboslay of West Mifflin. John is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Soboslay, who went to greet the Lord in 2015, months shy of their golden anniversary.  Father of Paul F. Soboslay (Amy), David A. Soboslay (Suzanne) and Michael J. Soboslay (Eileen). Grandfather of Caitlin, Zoe, Connor, Shannon, Cassidy, Ryan and Austin Soboslay.  He graduated from Duquesne High School in 1949 and later served as a Supply Sergeant in the United States Army (29th Infantry Division) on the island of Okinawa during the Korean War.  John graduated Summa Cum Laude from Duquesne University in 1958 with a degree in education, and also received his Master of Education Degree from Duquesne in 1962.  He was a long-time employee of the Pittsburgh Public Schools starting off as a political science and history teacher at Westinghouse and Allderdice High Schools. John went on to serve as an Executive Assistant to the Superintendent in the late 1960’s, and then worked as the Director of Information Services and the Director of Government Liaison until his retirement in 1989. John was a member of St. Philomena’s Church in Squirrel Hill and later a member of St. Bede Parish in Point Breeze. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street(freyvogelfuneralhome.com) on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Funeral Thursday, Mass of Christian Burial, St. Mary Magdalene Parish, St. Bede Church 10:00 am. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Mifflin. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Mary Magdalene Parish, 509 S. Dallas Ave., Pgh, PA 15208.
