John Leo Miclot V
March 12, 1959-March 18, 2025

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of John Leo Miclot V, age 66, affectionately known as “John the Great”. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother,
entrepreneur and dedicated community member. John touched the lives of many with his generosity, leadership, and passion for innovation.

John is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Rinchetti; his children John Jacob (Marie), Adam (Grace), and Sam (Veronica). He was a proud grandfather to Xavier, Cecilia, and
Samuel. He is also survived by his siblings: Andy (Sharlene), James, Mary and Nancy (Paul) and many nieces and nephews. His legacy will continue to shine brightly in the
hearts of those who knew and loved him.

John was an entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Over a distinguished career, he played a pivotal role in advancing medical technology and healthcare innovation. He
spent ten years in senior leadership roles at Respironics, ultimately serving as President and CEO from 2003 to 2008. Throughout his career, John held executive positions at Healthdyne Technologies Inc., Medex, Ohmeda, Baxter Edwards, and DeRoyal Industries. After his tenure at Respironics, he became an Executive in Residence at Warburg Pincus, served as CEO of CCS Medical, lead Tengion Inc. in it’s mission to advance tissue regeneration and served as CEO of LinguaFlex, a company focused on sleep-disordered breathing.

John earned his BBA in Marketing from the University of Iowa in 1981. Soon after, he married his former wife, Kathleen and they had three sons.

A passionate advocate for education, he established the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business, John L. Miclot School and Lab of Sales, the first of it’s kind in the
country. He also holds the first endowed Chair in Sleep Science at the University of Pennsylvania, the John L Miclot Professorship in Sleep. Beyond his professional and
philanthropic work, John was a dedicated firefighter and safety advocate. He served as an active and certified firefighter at Fox Chapel Volunteer Fire Department. He was also
a National Safety Officer with the Fire Department Safety Officers Association. He was on the Board of the First Responders Center of Excellence, associated with the National
Firefighters Association. He was also on the Board of NOCTEM Health, Dynamics Inc., the Pittsburgh Zoo and the St. Margaret Foundation. John was a member of Young Presidents
Organization (YPO) for nearly 25 years and served as the Chapter Chair for both YPO and YPO Gold.

John believed in living life to the fullest, embracing challenges with courage, and giving back to the community. As he always said: “Be gentle with yourself and strive to be
