Kyriakos C. Davides MD, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at age 85 surrounded by loving family, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-four years, Alexandra, and his two beloved children: his son, Constantine of Hingham, MA, and his daughter, Christina (Athanasios) Tsiatis of San Francisco, CA. He also leaves behind three adored grandsons, Stavros and Harrison Davides, and Alexandros Tsiatis. Kyr was the very beloved brother-in-law of Drs. Athan and Lydia Georgiades and loving uncle to Alexander ( Sarah) Georgiades of Vienna, Virginia, and Jason (Rosita) Georgiades of Los Angeles, CA. He was also the great-uncle to James Georgiades.
One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather for the first time in 2015. He often said that first moment he held Stavros was a love unlike any other. He was fortunate to experience that joy two more times with the births of Harrison and Alexandros. "Papou" as he was affectionately known, was always delighted by their presence and antics.
Born in Policastron, Greece, in 1940, to the late Constantin and Maria Davides, he was predeceased by his brother, Paul Ionanides, and sister, Kyriaki Lazaridou.
Kyriakos was educated in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he graduated from the Aristotelion University School of Medicine. He continued his medical training in the United States at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York, with residencies in both General Surgery and Urology at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. It was in Pittsburgh that he met his wife and where they married in 1971.
He joined the urology practice of the late Leo M. King MD, and practiced in the Jefferson, McKeesport, and White Oak areas. He served on the staff at Jefferson and McKeesport Hospitals, becoming President of the Staff at McKeesport in 1984 and President of the local chapter of the American Urological Association. Dr. Davides was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Urological Association, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Kyr was known by many terms of endearment, each reflecting his unique personality: A Gentleman's Gentleman, The Good Doctor, simply Doc, and of course, Papou. His late colleague, Dr. Usman Ahmad, fondly referred to Kyr as "Walking Kindness," a sentiment echoed by many. His patients loved him for his caring and endearing nature. Kyr cared deeply for his family and friends, living his life in a way that reflected this devotion. He rarely missed his children’s school plays, concerts, or games. There were many times he would wake up at 4 a.m. to drive his son to an early hockey practice or game, wanting to be nowhere else.
Kyr’s longtime passions included ice hockey, where he held Penguins season tickets for decades, and saw the team win many Stanley Cups. Later in life he took up golf and enjoyed playing with family, colleagues and friends. Kyr and Alex also enjoyed traveling, with London, Paris, and the vineyards of California among their favorite destinations. Kyr became a knowledgeable wine enthusiast, amassing a great wine cellar with Cabernet Sauvignon being a particular favorite. Kyr and Alex were dedicated subscribers to the Pittsburgh Symphony for over 50 years with Kyr attending one final performance in 2022 with Yefim Bronfman as the soloist.
Investing was another longtime interest, as Kyr proved to be quite astute at stock-picking. He regularly read the Wall Street Journal and Barron's to stay informed. His aptitude made him an ideal candidate for serving his church, St. Nicholas Cathedral, as a member of its Foundation Fund. A long-time By-laws chair, he also volunteered his time on the cathedral's By-Laws Committee.
The family is so very grateful to his loving caregivers who cared for him for many years, Nathan, Gabby, Angie, Imee, Amanda, Crystal and Natcho.
May he now be resting amongst the Saints and Angels, sitting at the right hand of God. No doubt, he's enjoying a perfect round of 18 with those friends who passed before him, reunited with his family, and twirling his Pens towel in spirit.
In his eternal memory and honor, please raise a glass of Cabernet, preferably a Jordan Reserve Cabernet. While Kyr will be remembered for many things, his ultimate legacy will be that of the kindness, humility and respect he showed to all who crossed his path. He was truly a gentle man.
Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 4pm to 7pm with Trisagion Service at 5PM. Visitation will continue on Friday September 12, 2025at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 10AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11AM. Interment will be at Homewood Cemetery.
