Mary Rapp Obituary

Mary Catherine (Diulus) Rapp

Born April 9, 1934, Mary Catherine (Diulus) Rapp, 88, of Shaler Township, passed away at home on January 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Cherished mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and aunt, she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, mother Susan (Bulsok), and father Vite Diulus Sr., and is survived by her daughter Mary Kay Masa (Mark), sons Joseph and Paul Rapp, and grandchildren Jacob Kistler, Taylor Waggle, and Luke Masa. Predeceased by her sister Cecila Dugan (John), she leaves behind her sister Rita Sukel (late husband Gene) and brother Vite “Sonny” Diulus Jr. (late wife Gerrie), plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A lifelong Pittsburgher, Mary was born and raised in Panther Hollow and South Oakland. Married at St. Paul Cathedral, she, her husband and their three children moved to Glenshaw in the mid-1960s, where she lived ever since. Throughout her long life she worked many jobs, including as an administrative assistant at the University of Pittsburgh in the very department where Jonas Salk worked on the polio vaccine. Additionally, she worked at Duquesne University in the Department of Journalism, and St. Sebastian School (now Holy Cross Academy) where she was affectionately known as “Miss Mary”. Mary enjoyed reading, watching the films of her youth, sunbathing, and cheering on Pittsburgh’s professional sports teams, especially the Pirates. Friends will be received at John A.
