Age 101, a resident of Longwood at Oakmont, passed away on Tuesday October 22, 2024. Born June 18, 1923 in Squirrel Hill to Edward Goetz and Camille Harden Goetz. She attended Linden Avenue School and graduated from Peabody High School and Edgewood Park Junior College in New York. In 1945, she married John Cornell Hill, who grew up a few blocks away and, according to family lore, was sitting on the stoop with her older brother when she was born at home. Widowed in 1977, she married Samuel McCune in 1985 and relished years of travel and winters in Florida with him before his death in 1993. She is survived by their four children, Nancy Noone, Linda Colbaugh, Ellen DeNinno and John Hill and stepdaughters Helen McCune and Lucie Van der Veer. She was a longtime member of the Fox Chapel Golf Club and the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Mary volunteered throughout her life and was beloved by her family and large network of friends for her caring and generous spirit. She was a sharp bridge player, expert knitter whose sweaters are still in use and steadfast golfer. Mary was an unwavering fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and went to all three home games of their 1971 and ’79 World Series, wins and she never gave up on them in their lean years. She loved reading and after her eyesight was severely impaired and switched to audiobooks without a complaint. Her curiosity about the world knew no bounds. She was preceded in death by her two beloved husbands and three siblings. She is survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
