Michael Donahue Obituary

On Thursday October 20, 2022, at age 56, in Baton Rouge, LA. Beloved husband of Tricia T. Donahue; proud father of Caroline and Molly Donahue; loving son of Nancy N. Donahue and the late James M. Donahue; brother of Debbie Donahue, Anne McCourt (Jim), and Mark Donahue (Jean-Marc Padova); uncle of Kate, Michael, and Jack McCourt; also survived by his beloved yellow Lab, Lily. Michael was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1984. During his time at Central, at age 16, Michael was diagnosed with his first bout of cancer. He went through two years of chemo and radiation treatments to beat the disease. After graduating from Central, Michael attended Penn State University where he became a member of Delta Chi Fraternity, and as with his days at Central, he formed many lifelong friendships. An avid golfer and fisherman, Michael was also a former member of the P.A.A., where he enjoyed his time playing squash or basketball, as well as the comradery experienced in the Trent Room. On fall weekends, like his father, Michael loved being a part of the Pitt football “chain crew”. In the late 1990’s, Michael met Tricia Tomeny, a native of Baton Rouge, LA, who was living in Pittsburgh as she attended Duquesne University. The two hit it off immediately and were married in October 2000. They relocated to Baton Rouge where Michael and Tricia welcomed daughters Caroline and Molly and began to raise their family. In the twenty-two years that followed, Michael learned to love Cajun food and LSU football and baseball, established a career as a Vice President of Commercial Lending with BankPlus, and became active in the community. Michael was the past president and an active member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Baton Rouge. Michael received a second cancer diagnosis at the beginning of September 2022. He was ready to fight and beat it again. Unfortunately, even after a tough fight, the chemo treatments were too much for Michael’s body to handle and he died just six weeks after his second diagnosis. Michael will always be remembered as a man with a strong faith in Jesus, as a proud father and husband, and a wonderful friend to many. Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street Pittsburgh, PA 15213 on Friday October 28, 2022 from 3-7PM. A Memorial Service will also be held on Saturday November 12, 2022 in Christ the King Church in Baton Rouge, LA. Remembrances may be made to Central Catholic High School or the Baton Rouge Magnet High School Theatre Program.
