Michael Alexander, 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 25, 2026, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Michael’s life was defined by public service and a deep sense of civic responsibility. He served for many years in the federal government, building a distinguished career through work that demanded sound judgment and resilience. He lived a full and complicated life, meeting its challenges with quiet resolve. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Kirby Alexander. He is survived by his children: Adam; Anne (Philip); Joan (Gary); and Margie (Don), as well as eight grandchildren. Funeral Saturday May 9, Mass of Christian Burial, St. Paul Cathedral at 10 a.m. In accordance with his wishes, he will be laid to rest in Marblehead, Massachusetts, alongside his wife, at a committal service to be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael L. Alexander and Marilyn Kirby Alexander Scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh (pitt.gift/alexandermemorial) The family is grateful for the care and compassion shown by the doctors, nurses, and staff at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in his final days.
