Omar I. Bhutta, MD, MPH

Dr. Bhutta died peacefully at home on Monday, March 8, 2021.  Beloved husband of Rita Ernst Bhutta, proud father of Dr. Omar Jamal Bhutta and Daniel Ernst Bhutta, and grandfather to Isaac, Ezra and Julian.  He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. M. Jamal Bhutta of Pakistan, brother to Suriya, Bilqis, Safia, Mahmood, Khalid, Tariq, Javaid, and Zubair Bhutta, and uncle to 42 nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and many friends.

Dr. Bhutta came to the US in 1970, did an internship at St. Margaret Hospital, and residency in Psychiatry at WPIC in Pittsburgh.  He was recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Most of his working life was at Mercy Hospital.  He loved reading and was known for his wide range of knowledge, his wit, and his fascination with pink plastic flamingos. Funeral and interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Human Development Foundation which funds education and health clinics in rural areas of Pakistan (https://www.hdf.com), local food banks, or the charity of your choice.
