Plato Michael Powers, known affectionally to his family as “Uncle,” reposed in the Lord on November 3, 2021, in Macon Georgia. He was 83 years old. Plato was born in Cokeburg and was a long-time resident of Oakmont. He was a Coast Guard veteran and a member of the American Legion and AHEPA #34. A gifted salesman, he was recognized with many awards over his career. After his time in sales, he enjoyed working at the Allegheny County Assessor’s Office. “Everyone’s favorite Uncle” was always smiling and pleasant with an ability to savor all of life’s moments, great and small. He often recounted these moments to family and friends through his wonderful storytelling, which will be greatly missed. He is survived by his brother, D. John Powers (Helene), and was predeceased by his sister, Sofia, and her husband, William Tangalos. Dear uncle to his nieces and nephews. His great nieces and nephews Elena (Alex Berger), Stacey, Christiana, Harrison, and Nicholas mourn a man they loved more as a grandfather than a great-uncle. Friends will be received on November 9th at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Oakland from 9 AM until a funeral service at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to St. Innocent Orthodox Church, 7301 Rivoli Road, Macon, GA 31210. Arrangements by John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com)
