Rifat Qureshi Obituary

Rifat Qureshi

On Thursday, July 1, 2021, surrounded by family at age 58; beloved husband of Catherine Qureshi; cherished father of Max and Keira Qureshi; son of Nahed and the late M.H. Kabir Qureshi; brother of Farah Qureshi (Frank Goldstein), Afsun Qureshi (Brent Smith) and the late Vasim Qureshi; son-in-law of Mary and Edwin Floyd; brother-in-law of Ted Floyd (Kei Sochi), John Floyd (Julie), and Richard Floyd (Desiree); uncle of Jonah Qureshi of Toronto, ON; Ben, Charlotte, and Ambrose Smith of London, UK; Hannah and Andrew Floyd of Lafayette, CO; Arden, Eric, and Peter Floyd; and, Griffin, Daisy, Edwin, and Jamieson Floyd all of Barboursville, VA.  Also survived by numerous family and friends around the USA, Canada, India, and the United Kingdom, and by his cat Valentine. Rifat had a Doctorate of Musical Arts (D.M.A) from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and was a classically trained violist.  He was an actor, entrepreneur and long time employee of the Sports and Exhibition Authority where he served as the Director of Economic Development. Above and beyond Rifat’s academic, performing arts, and professional successes, he was a kind, gentle and loving man.  He always saw the good in people and in situations, had a warm smile, and a wonderful sense of humor.  He had an avid interest in natural land management, and loved sports, politics, reading, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rifat’s name to the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy or to the charity of your choice.  There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh at 11 A.M. Interment will be private. Arrangements by John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc.
