Sallie Oliphant de Vou died peacefully at age 90 in Verona, PA on March 7, 2025 while surrounded by her three daughters. Sallie was the daughter of James Laird de Vou, IV and Caroline Davidson Mitchell. Born on August 20, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Sallie attended the Ellis School, as did her three daughters, and Chatham Hall in Virginia. She graduated from Mt. Vernon Seminary in Washington, D.C. in 1952. She had her formal debut at Pittsburgh’s Cinderella Ball before returning to Pittsburgh where she married William McMichael Jones in 1954. Her daughter, Blythe Jones Lyons of Palm Beach, FL, survives her. A beloved son, William McMichael Jones, Jr., predeceased her. Following a divorce, Sallie married Alan I W Frank with whom she had two daughters, Darcy Frank Mackay of Mill Valley, CA and Kimberly Frank Shaw of Radnor, PA, both of whom survive her. Sallie worked for TWA airlines and for Mellon Bank during a long working career while raising her four children as a single mother. She loved the Pittsburgh Symphony, cooking and entertaining, and gardening. She was a member of Weeders and Seeders Garden Club, a former member of the Pittsburgh Golf Club and the Fox Chapel Golf Club, and a lifelong member of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church. Sallie is survived by her daughters, eight grandchildren: Ted and Michael Lyons, Adelaide and Will Jones, Katherine and Calder Orlesky, and Susanne and Jack Shaw; three great grandchildren: James, Richard and Pierce Lyons, a brother, James Laird de Vou, V and sons-in-law Jed Lyons and E.
