Suzanne Flood Obituary


Suzanne “Sue” Flood, age 94 of Pittsburgh, PA passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 27, 1928, in Pittsburgh, the beloved daughter of Edward H.“Cap” Flood and Evalyn “Tex” Flood, sister of the late James “Jimmy” Flood and Dean “Bix” Flood (Dorothy). Aunt of Danielle Morin, Evalyn Jacobsen, Patricia Wheeler, and Kimberly Flood; great Aunt of Elizabeth (Tanner), Spencer, Vanamali (Akrura), Aaron (Amanda), Noah (Karla), Max (Anna), and Lily (Jake). Sue spent her entire life in the Highland Park and East Liberty neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. A graduate of Peabody Highschool, Sue went on to attend Carnegie Mellon, where she earned a BA in Education and later her Masters in Education. Sue spent 42 years as a school teacher for the Pittsburgh Public Schools, spending most of her time at Lemington Elementary and Concord Elementary. She taught 3rd and 5th grade and was loved by her students and their families. In addition to teaching, she was a lifelong student and a long standing member of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Pitt and Carnegie Mellon, following her retirement. She was a dedicated supporter of the arts in Pittsburgh and would often attend the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on Sunday afternoons. Her family will always hold dear her memory in the countless scrabble games, walks around the reservoir in Highland Park, dinners out, the phone calls, and the cards on every occasion. Her love and attention was felt by   all. Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Sunday September 11, 2022 from 4-6pm. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Cathedral 10:00 am Monday September 12, 2022. Graveside service to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
