Thomas A. Prendergast
Age 89, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2021. Forever a bachelor, Tom is survived by one sister, Margaret Ann Weis, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, and grands. He was the son of Irish immigrants, Philip and Margaret Coyne Prendergast and was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Mary Burgoon, Jack Prendergast, Teresa Weis and Charles "Bud" Prendergast, as well as his dear friend Audrey Houck. Tom was well loved by everyone who knew him, he was charming and handsome, generous and funny. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed visiting his cousins in Galway and Mayo. Tom grew up in Oakland and attended St. Agnes School and Central Catholic High School before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. His first job was selling newspapers in Forbes Field so he could get in for free. He continued his "ballyard career" by working at the Pittsburgh stadiums for games and events as a second job for many years. He loved to walk and likely walked a mile a day until recently. "Our Tom" will be dearly missed. Tom's family extends special thanks to the caregivers, kitchens and staff of New Hope Personal Care, Arden Courts of North Hills and Hope Hospice. Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Tuesday from 8:30a.m. to 9:30a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul Cathedral at 10a.m.
