Virginia "Ginna" Barrett Obituary

Virginia “Ginna” Diven Barrett, Age 87, of Pittsburgh, passed away on Wednesday April 19, 2023. Virginia  was surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Diven, Sr. and Martha (Mitchell) Diven. Virginia was raised primarily in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. Virginia also resided for many years and raised her family in the Brookline neighborhood of Pittsburgh. She was an active member of the Church of Resurrection (St. Theresa of Kolkata parish) where she served on the Resurrection Athletic Association Board. Virginia, a long-time political player and Democratic committeewoman in the South Hills loved election season. She decided to sit this Primary out. She was extremely proud of her Irish roots and enjoyed her friendships in the Daughters of Erin and her Fagawi sisterhood. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dicky” Barrett former Pittsburgh Police detective , her son, John J. Connors (Karen) former Pittsburgh Firefighter; and the following siblings: Alfred Diven, Jr. (Louann); Robert Diven (Mildred); Daniel Diven (Alice); Bernard Diven (Claire); Joseph Diven (Barb) and Kathleen Diulus (Felix); her loving niece Sandra Huetter (Steve) and Philip Diulus (Diane). Virginia is survived by and will be dearly missed by her children Carolyn Pilewski (Michael); Amy Montgomery, Becky Toomey (Geo) and Ian Barrett (Brandi), Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office detective. Virginia is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and eight great-children (and one more on the way.) Virginia adored her nieces and nephews (too many to list) and she loved each and every one of them. Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street Pittsburgh, PA 15213 on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Cathedral, 108 North Dithridge Street, Pittsburgh 15213 on  Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 10:00am and will be live-streamed on the funeral home Facebook page which can be accessed at www.freyvogelfuneralhome.com. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Virginia’s family would like to especially thank the staff and caregivers at the Kane Community Living Center at Scott Twp.
